The MIPS (Multi-Directional Impact Protection System) is designed to add protection against a rotational motion transmitted to the brain. This would then be helpful against angled impacts to the head and rotaional forces from angular acceleration that affect the brain. MIPS helmets redirect the energy forces otherwise transmitted to the brain by a low friction layer allowing a sliding motion reducing strain.
